Privilege

It seems wrong to lie safe
In the middle of the night
In a bed far away
From the violence
In a skin far away
From the…

It seems wrong to use these white fingers
In the middle of the night
In a bed far away
From the violence
To like your words
Share your words
Show your skin
Far away from the…

Far away from the country which said that all men are created equal, but never meant it
Which still says it
Which still doesn’t mean it

Far away from the…racism?
No that can’t be right
Because racism is never far away
Is it

Only as far away as a man asking you
With your white skin
To follow the rules
Obey the laws
The ones you made to cage him

It seems wrong to find joy
In anything right now
When so many can no longer find…
When so many can no longer find their brother
Or their sister
Or their freedom

When so many can only find a knee against their throat
A gun against their temple
A bullet in their back

It seems wrong to
Breathe
My lungs the color of privilege
My lungs the color of alive
